Power

For Wales: Wales used to be a powered by water. Water mills powered our industrial past. When we look at future sustainable electricity generation, we should look to hydropower and tidal power once again.

For Carmarthenshire: Solar is a great way to generate power on buildings. It is not a great way of industrialising our green spaces and farming land. We should cover more of our industrial buildings and car parks with solar – and not destroy our green landscapes.

Covering our hillsides and countryside in pylons and wind farms scars our landscapes. Electricity infrastructure should be underground where possible.

Flood Prevention

For Wales: We need to expand rainscape projects and other environmentally sustainable ways of dealing with our surface water – including not building houses on flood plains.

For Carmarthenshire: We need to invest in flood prevention schemes to protect our most vulnerable communities.

Water and Sewerage

For Wales and Carmarthenshire: Water bills have skyrocketed. Are Welsh Water’s not for profit claims actually true? We need to hold water companies to account – including how senior staff are paid.

Recycle and reuse

For Wales and Carmarthenshire: We need to reduce the costs and efforts for recycling across Welsh counties – and the sheer number of bags, boxes, cartons and containers. For a country of 3 million people, we should have more of a unified approach. We’re one of the best countries in the world for recycling, although performance and cost varies dramatically depending on where you live. We should not tie ourselves to self-imposed boundaries, but expand good practice and avoid duplication.

Litter

For Wales: Print car registration numbers onto fast food packaging from drive-thru restaurants.

For Carmarthenshire: Stop the wholesale removal of waste bins in towns and villages.
