Plans for a new £28–35m special school in Llanelli have been in discussion for years, with families and staff repeatedly calling for action to replace the overcrowded and outdated current building. While the council has now approved a 150‑pupil replacement, the timeline for delivery remains uncertain.

Recent exchanges between Labour and Plaid Cymru councillors, reported by Nation Cymru, have highlighted divisions over whether a clear timescale should already be in place. Labour has accused the Plaid‑led administration of dragging its feet, while Plaid members argue that setting a firm date now would be premature.

Carl Peters‑Bond said:

“This is exactly the kind of political back‑and‑forth that frustrates families. What matters is not point‑scoring, but ensuring the new school is delivered with expediency and clarity. Parents and pupils deserve certainty after years of waiting.”

He also noted that comments from Labour councillor David Darkin, himself an architect, could have been more constructive:

“Given his professional background, I would have hoped to hear practical insights on how to move the project forward, rather than simply calling out another party. That would have been far more helpful to the families who are desperate to see progress.”

Carl added:

“This is another example of why people must come before politics. As an independent candidate, my focus is on the children, their families, and the staff who give so much every day. They deserve action, not arguments.”
